Acrovision’s turnkey solution combines advanced barcode data capture with integrated aggregation software, streamlining operations from end to end. This innovative approach has helped Waymade enhance supply chain efficiency through the use of Acrovision’s Mobile Aggregation Workstation.
Waymade is a global specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development, licensing, and commercialisation of generic and niche medicines. To ensure compliance with international market regulations, particularly the Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD), Waymade employs advanced serialisation platforms. These platforms provide real-time visibility, collaboration, and secure transmission of serialisation data across the supply chain.
Serialisation is a component of the FMD, aimed at combating counterfeit medicines. In addition to serialisation, some markets also mandate aggregation—the process of establishing a parent-child relationship between packaging levels. For Waymade, this means linking unique serial numbers from individual product packs to those of shipper boxes (SSCCs), and in some cases, to pallet-level SSCCs, depending on the specific market requirements.
Waymade sought a partner capable of delivering a complete solution for capturing codes and barcodes across multiple packaging levels, along with generating serialisation and aggregation reports in the precise formats required by their serialisation platforms.
To meet the operational demands of flexibility and mobility, the data capture system needed to be built into a bespoke mobile workstation. After a thorough consultation process, Acrovision proposed a fully integrated turnkey solution – Acrotrace.
Using its prior experience in developing mobile data collection workstations, Acrovision enhanced the design with new features, including an adjustable-height worktable to accommodate various operator working heights, ensuring ergonomic efficiency alongside technical performance.
The Solution
The fixed position / presentation scanner selected was the Cognex DataMan 374Q, which is capable of scanning multiple codes in ‘bundles’ at extremely fast speeds, resulting in higher efficiency and productivity.
The handheld reader chosen was the Cognex DataMan 8700DQ which offers Bluetooth functionality for ease of use, thus allowing users to scan aggregation codes away from the main workstation itself when packaging pallets for shipment.
Waymade has found the Acrovision solution to be a fast, flexible and reliable solution, leading to improved operational efficiency for their packaging operations when aggregation is required. Ultimately providing a final automated report which can be imported directly into the serialisation systems they use.
The Acrotrace software created has the following functionality:
– Unique User ID and password control
-Access level control
-Ability to create / and edit product batch recipes.
This being the main setup for required scan quantities for a product
-Run-time prompts and batch status data
-Product / batch look up
-Aggregation report creation – uploaded to Waymade host
-Report format selection
-Batch error reporting
